The puppies were taken in by Madra, an organisation based in Camas, Conamara, which specialises in the care of stray dogs and puppies.

Sadly, five of the puppies have died, though eight are still surviving, reports RTE.

It is believed the litter was born last Thursday.

The puppies’ mother has not yet been located, reports RTE.

Gráinne Ní Mháille, the group’s secretary, said: “The pups need their mother, and the mother needs the pups.

“She’s just had these pups, and now they’re gone. She is scared, worried and she’s producing milk, which very dangerous in terms of her own health. We want to be able to reunite the mother with her pups,” reports RTE.

Madra is urging the public to immediately contact the organisation or a local vet if they come across stray puppies, reports RTE.
