Gardai report that 170 motorists were caught driving over the speed limit during Operation Slowdown.
Almost 86,000 vehicles were checked from 7am this morning. The operation yielded 170 offenders.
Gardai are recommending motorists to drive with caution, as weather conditions are expected to be treacherous in some areas over the weekend.
