An inquest has heard the case of a young lady from County Kilkenny who, two years ago, on her first day at a new work in Japan, had a deadly allergic response after drinking a cup of coffee, reports RTE.
On October 20, 2022, Aika Doheny, 24, of Greensbridge Street, Kilkenny City, passed away in St. James’s Hospital in Dublin, one day after being flown by air ambulance from a hospital in Tokyo back to Ireland.
After lunch, Ms. Doheny reportedly had a suspected allergic reaction to milk in a coffee drink, which caused her to become ill and fall in a bathroom, according to a Dublin District Coroner’s Court hearing, reports RTE.
According to the inquiry, the decedent passed away while attempting to use an EpiPen and take an inhaler.
On August 18, 2022, Ms. Doheny, who was pursuing a master’s degree in biomedical science at the University of Galway, travelled to Japan as a research assistant.
Mayumi Doheny, the mother of the deceased, testified that she had been to Japan with her daughter to assist her in relocating to Japan for her new career, reports RTE.
According to Ms. Doheny, her kid has a nut, dairy, and egg allergy.
She also attested to the fact that the deceased’s allergies required her to always have an EpiPen on hand.
The mother described her daughter’s milk allergy as “very strange,” reports RTE.
According to the inquiry, Ms. Doheny began working at her new employment on September 1, 2022.
