A great job: Emaon Ryan praises Media Minister’s handling of RTE disaster

Minister for the Environment and head of the Green Party, Eamon Ryan, has commended Media Minister Catherine Martin for her handling of the RTÉ problem, reports Breaking News.

Mr. Ryan added that the government’s “most critical decision” for the first quarter of 2024 will be to address media funding in Ireland.

The deputy leader of the Green Party, Ms Martin, led the political reaction when RTÉ, the country’s largest broadcaster, was involved in a financial problem that started because its highest-paid employee, Ryan Tubridy, had not disclosed his fees appropriately, reports Breaking News.

Following the controversy over Tubridy’s salary, a number of additional financial and governance problems surfaced, which resulted in the resignation of several high-ranking officials and a multimillion-euro decrease in TV licence fees.

Mr Ryan stated that Ms Martin had done a “really good job managing her portfolio” as Media Minister, reports Breaking News.
