An Albanian migrant who repeatedly raped a woman he met on a dating site after using a false name has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
According to the Irish Times, foreign national Bajo Ziflai, 22, was found guilty by a jury of four counts of rape of the 23-year-old woman and one count of sexual assault at a County Galway address after a trial at Central Criminal Court in July last year. He was 20 at the time of the attack.
Ms Judge Eileen Creedon sentenced him on Monday, noting that Ziflai had shown no remorse or acknowledged the harm he had caused the woman on the night in question. He does not accept the jury’s verdict and claims that the woman made the allegations because she was “attention seeking”, reports the Irish Times.
Ziflai, with an address in Lacken Valley, New Ross, Co. Wexford, has no criminal record. He’s been in custody since shortly after the assault.
The court heard that the foreign thug met the woman on a dating site and gave her a fake name. They arranged to meet at a house and she was taken there by her mother. She had told him in advance that they would not have sex, heard the court.
Despite this, Ziflai raped and sexually assaulted the woman four times before she was able to leave the house and call her mother.
According to the Irish Times, Ms Justice Creedon noted that the attack was planned by Ziflai, who gave the woman a false name. She noted that the attack had a significant impact on the woman, who suffered from PTSD and depression as a result.
Because the migrant refuses to admit guilt and consequently expressed no remorse for his actions that night, Judge Creedon said Ziflai was not open to mitigation.
She noted that he has no criminal record, is still a young man and has a long life ahead of him once he is released from prison.
The judge handed down a 10-year sentence and suspended the final year under a number of conditions. The migrant thug, Ziflai is on the sex offender registry.
Meanwhile the Irish taxpayer will fund his prison term.
