All time low: Latest figures show that the number of people signing on the live register is at its lowest in nine years

According latest figures released by the Department of Social Protection the number of people signing on the Live Register is at its lowest level in almost 9 years.

The latest figures which were released earlier today showed that numbers have now fallen to 257,000 people in the month of June.

Although figures do suggest unemployment amongst young people is still relatively high there was a drop in the past month with 3000 people officially signing off the live register.

The news which has been welcomed by the Department now means that unemployment levels are it’s lowest since before the recession began.

It is thought the recent surge in certain industries such as construction and the manufacturering has attributed to the reduction of the number of people claiming social welfare payments.
