Peter Wright has claimed his first PDC World Darts Championship crown by beating Michael Van Gerwen in the Alexandra Palace this evening.
Wright who has tasted defeat against Van Gerwen on numerous occasions, took his first World title by winning 6 sets to 3.
Snakebite who was one dart away from crashing out of the tournament in his first match took the spoils and ended his Van Gerwen hoodoo with a superb display to take the crown.
Wright had a 102 average and 11 180s and crucially had a 53% double success rate which ultimately proved the difference against Van Gerwen.
