As fears grow, stock markets drop around the world on fears of Coronavirus

Stock markets around the globe sank on Monday as fears continue to grow regarding the deadly new Corona virus strain that has spread from China to numerous countries around the world.

Wall Street was in the red on Monday with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping over 400 points while the S&P 500 lost 1.5 percent and the Nasdaq-100 futures fell 2.1 percent.

Meanwhile, markets in Europe did not fare any better with the UK’s FTSE, Germany’s DAX and France’s CAC all down more than two percent while the Stoxx Europe 600 Index dropped 2.2 percent.

This pattern followed a similar trend across markets in Asia.

So far the virus has claimed the lives of at least 81 people while several thousands cases have been confirmed however, there has been speculation that the virus has spread to a much greater extent than the Chinese authorities will admit to.
