While the rest of the world was celebrating the New Year, Ireland’s Department of Health released a tweet at 12.01am to announce the arrival of the country’s new abortion law, which is among the most extreme in Europe.
Instead of presenting a new plan to cut the shortage of hospital beds, the tweet announced that abortion will be available “in maternity units and hospitals across the country, from today.”
It also provided that the cost of abortions will be covered by the tax payer.
The tweet is likely to cause shock among members of the public who will be wondering why abortion is being announced as the first highlight of 2019.
