IS bride Shamima Begum has been denied access to Bangladesh after its foreign ministry said that she is not a citizen of its state.

The announcement comes after the British Government refused the 19-year-old from re-entering the UK despite pleas from Ms Begum and her family.

Ms Begum who has become international news in recent days, has been denied citizenship by both countries amid fears that she could be considered a security threat after she fled the UK when she was just 15 to marry an IS solider.

Following numerous appeals by the Begum family, the British Home said on Tuesday that they have decided to revoke Ms Begum’s citizenship given that she is of dual nationality.

However in a swift response, the Bangladeshi foreign ministry has rebuffed claims by the British Government that Ms Begum could be offered citizenship by Bangladesh as she is of Bangladeshi descent.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the country’s Shahriar Alam said: “The Government of Bangladesh is deeply concerned that she has been erroneously identified as a holder of dual citizenship shared with Bangladesh alongside her birthplace, the United Kingdom.”

“Bangladesh asserts that Ms Shamima Begum is not a Bangladeshi citizen. She is a British citizen by birth and has never applied for dual nationality with Bangladesh.”

“It may also be mentioned that she never visited Bangladesh in the past despite her parental lineage.”

“So, there is no question of her being allowed to enter into Bangladesh.”

The Bangladeshi government also said that they were only made aware of the British Government’s claims via the media.

It is now believed that the Begum family are looking at a number legal avenues in order to bring their daughter home.
