The August Bank Holiday is set to be a total washout, with torrential rain, gale force winds, and risk of thunder across the country.

Today, Friday, will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. The rain will become more persistent in the west and north by mid-morning, with heavy downpours in Ulster and Connacht.

There will be outbreaks of rain pretty much everywhere towards late afternoon and evening, with temperatures reaching highs of 16C.

Saturday will be the relative best, with mostly dry and sunny conditions in the south. Up north, it will a gloomy start of the day, with widespread rain towards the afternoon.

Sunday and Monday will be stay in bed days, with more heavy rain in western areas, and gale force southerly winds predicted. The east will probably fare a little better, but not by much.
