The body of a woman has been found after a house fire in south Belfast. The fire broke out at the house in the Archdale Drive area of the Belvoir Estate at around 2pm on Sunday.

The woman is believed to be in her 50s and was discovered dead in the property. A post mortem examination will take place to determine the cause of death. An investigation into the cause of the fire and the death of the woman have begun.

Alliance South Belfast councillor Paula Bradshaw offered her condolences: “My thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends and neighbours of this poor woman who tragically died. The local community will be in shock and saddened at this news. I would like to praise the efforts of the fire service in their attempts to deal with this fire and save the life of this woman. I would also encourage anyone with information on this fire to contact the authorities so the cause can be determined.”
