Five-year-old Ashya King will today undergo the last session of proton beam therapy at the Prague clinic where he is currently receiving treatment for his rare brain tumor.

A spokesperson for the Proton Beam Centre has said that the patient ‘has been doing very well’ and that he is expected to receive the last dose of proton therapy today.

The Ashya King case gained international notoriety when his parents removed him from a clinic in the UK, against his treating physician’s wishes, because they felt that Ashya would better benefit from the proton beam therapy, which is not available in Britain.

The family fled to Spain, where they were taken into police custody. They mounted a legal battle against the British High Court to be allowed take Ashya to the Czech Republic for the treatment they thought best. Eventually, an UK judge allowed such move.

Today, little Ashya is said to be able to sit up on his own, play with his toys, and react to his surroundings.
