BREAKING: 25,000 without power as Storm Bram unleashes its wrath

Storm Bram hit Ireland on 9 December 2025 with south-westerly gale to storm-force winds reaching 110–130 km/h in exposed southern and eastern areas. By midday, ESB Networks reported 22,000 homes, farms and businesses without electricity. Cork recorded the highest number at over 3,000 premises, followed by Tipperary, Wexford, Limerick and Kildare. In Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, a single major fault left 2,577 properties offline.

Fallen trees on saturated ground caused most damage to overhead lines. ESB crews began repairs from first light, restoring several thousand customers by early afternoon, but further outages occurred as gusts peaked along the coast. Met Éireann’s Status Orange wind warning covered the entire country, with highest gusts expected between noon and 18:00.

Power restoration continued into the evening, with the majority of affected premises reconnected by nightfall, though isolated pockets in west Cork and south Wexford remained off supply overnight pending tree clearance and line rebuilding. No widespread prolonged outages were reported.
