The High Court escalated its standoff with Enoch Burke on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, appointing a receiver to siphon nearly €80,000 in unpaid fines straight from his salary. The defiant teacher, barred from Wilson Hospital school by an injunction, also had his bank account frozen as the State scrambles to recoup €79,100 in penalties. Burke was a no-show at today’s hearing, leaving his brother Isaac to steal the spotlight—briefly held in contempt for interrupting Mr Justice David Nolan before silencing himself to avoid further trouble.
RTÉ reports this mess kicked off in early 2023, when a judge hit Burke with a €700 daily fine for turning up at the school against court orders. That doubled to €1,400 in February after Mr Justice Nolan slammed his “flagrant” breaches, yet Burke hasn’t paid a dime. Still pocketing a full Department of Education salary while on administrative leave, he’s appealed his dismissal—a case yet to be heard. RTÉ notes the Attorney General’s counsel, Brian Kennedy SC, demanded the receiver, arguing Burke’s wages were fair game. His unyielding stance has fueled a firestorm of debate over defiance and duty. Stay tuned for more.
