BREAKING: Snow forecast for Ireland in high lying ground today as temperatures plummet

Have we escaped the Beast from the East this year? It certainly looked like we had, but now temps are about to nose dive.

Heavy rain is falling in Munster and parts of Leinster at the moment but that’s scheduled to turn into snow later today as temperatures plummet.

Met Eireann says heavy rain will hit Leinster and Munster with flash flooding in places.

The rain will start in the South and move northwards as they day progresses. As the rain moves north, temperatures will drop to between 1c and 5c and snow will fall in places.

Accumulations of snow will fall on mostly high lying ground with most of it forecast to be cleared by tomorrow morning.

The inclement weather will move westwards overnight with the rain, sleet and snow ending up in the Irish Sea.

Tomorrow, Monday will be very cold but dry with sunny spells in places. The morning will be frosty and drivers are warned to be vigilant.
