There’s no denying it. Seamus Mallon was one of the reasons why there has been peace in Ireland over the past 20 odd years.
He was the former Northern Ireland deputy first minister.
Seamus Mallon passed away in Co Armagh this afternoon aged 83.
He was heavily involved in the SDLP but will be remembered for playing a key role in the peace process, leading to the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. RIP
