British Steel has confirmed it will shut down blast furnaces at the Scunthorpe plant, potentially jeopardizing 2,000 jobs.
The furnaces will be replaced with greener electric arc furnaces (EAFs).
According to the company, the move will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 75% as EAFs can run on zero-carbon electricity.
