The iconic building which has been in use since 1184, bid farewell to the current Garda officers on Monday as the ageing building was replaced with a purpose built facility across the road.
The building which housed some of the country’s most notorious criminals over the years was transformed into a police station in 1836 before it became a Garda station upon when the state was formed.
Before its 200 year police/Garda presence, the iconic building was a bishop’s Palace for a remarkable 600 years.
It is not yet known what will happen to the building which will now be let unoccupied.
