The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has confirmed that he will return to work next Monday.
In an announcement this afternoon the Taoiseach Micheal Martin confirmed that Holohan will return on Monday October 5th.
The Taoiseach also said that he would like to thank Dr Ronan Glynn for his dedication to the role during Dr Holohan’s absence.
The news comes after Holohan took a three month leave to spend time with family after his wife who was diagnosed with blood cancer was admitted to palliative care.
As Dr Tony Holohan @CMOIreland prepares to return to post, I want to thank Dr @ronan_glynn for his extraordinary service, dedication and honesty over last few months as Acting CMO. He’s been a pleasure to work with, in some difficult circumstances, making v difficult decisions.
