The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has said that there is nothing in the current data to suggest that Ireland can’t move to phase 2 of lifting of restrictions.
Speaking at National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, Dr Holohan said that the third week of each is crucial and given the latest evidence there has been a large level of compliance in terms of social distancing.
However Dr Holohan warned that as the lifting of restrictions continue the public has to adapt for what is the new normal and avoid breaking the current guidelines set out by the Government.
Dr Holohan added such events that result in mass gatherings shouldn’t and cannot happen in order to stem the spread of the virus.
The Chief Medical Officer’s comments come as a decision to lift restrictions on Monday 8th of June is expected over the coming days.
