Children will be asked to take antigen tests if a classmate has covid but teachers are not allowed ask if children have taken an antigen test or not

The department of education is hoping that this will be up and running by the 29th of November. How it will operate is if there is one confirmed case in a class, then all the children in that class will be offered an antigen test.

If there is two or more confirmed cases in the class over a seven day period all the children in the class would be offered a test. The test will be free and it would be sent to the students homes.

Parents or guardians of the confirmed cases are being asked to inform the principal of the confirmed case and then they will contact the other relevant parents that need to be contacted.

The minister for education says no personal details will be shared. It is not mandatory for the children to take the test and that it will be discretionary. The parents and the children can continue to come into school as long as they don’t have any symptoms and the principal or teacher cannot ask if the children are tested or not.
