At least 49 people were killed after a gunman opened fire inside a mosque in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, as worshippers gathered for Friday prayers.
No fewer than 40 other people suffered serious injuries during the attack, which is the deadliest mass shooting in the country’s history.
A suspect, identified as 28-year-old Australian-born Brenton Tarrant, was arrested after the shooting. A 74-page manifesto allegedly written by Tarrant was seized in the aftermath of the event.
Tarrant is believed to have live-streamed his shooting spree. The footage circulated around social media worldwide before being taken down.
