The cold spell is to continue for another day, but better conditions are expected by Friday, according to Met Eireann.
Temperatures will remain in single digits today and tomorrow, with widespread frost and ice overnight.
Friday is expected to bring a welcome change as daytime temperatures rise to 8-9, and even reach double digits over the weekend, though there will be scattered outbreaks of rain on Saturday and Sunday.
