The murder of a local youngster has “left numbed” a close-knit community in Kilkenny, reports The Mirror.

On Thursday afternoon, June 27, Luke Crosby, 17, passed away on a building site close to the village of Freshford in North Kilkenny. Only a week before, he had finished his Leaving Certificate at the local Colaiste Mhuire Vocational school in Johnstown. The event has startled both the school’s staff and pupils.

Luke is thought to have been working on a relative’s house when the accident happened. After being informed about the occurrence, emergency services and the Gardaí verified that a male juvenile, in his teens, had died at the scene, reports The Mirror.

Freshford native Councillor Michael McCarthy, the Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, expressed his sympathies to the family, stating that the hamlet and the larger community are “numbed” and in “a state of shock” as a result of the occurrence.

The family’s acquaintance, Councillor McCarthy, continued, saying “it’s incredibly sad”.

“The family are well-known and respected in the area and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this incredibly difficult time,” he stated, reports The Mirror.
