Coronavirus: 19 NHS workers have died from Covid-19-related causes, but British health secretary does not believe defective or missing protection played any part

Nineteen NHS workers have died from Covid-19-related causes since the start of the crisis, but the British health secretary does not believe defective or missing protection played any role in the deaths.

During an interview with Sky News, Matt Hancock referred to the deaths as a ‘heartbreaking story’, but stopped short of quoting the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), or the material being defective, as a possible contributing factor to the deaths.

There have been repeated claims that British health workers are often forced to work with sub-standard protective equipment, or none at all.

Almost 9,000 people have now died from Covid-19-related causes across the UK.
