Covid-19: Government hints that fines for non-essential travel might be increased to €2,000

The Irish Government has hinted that fines for non-essential travel might be increased to €2,000.

The current fine, €500, has been deemed not to be enough to discourage travelling abroad. Authorities say that around 60% of people arriving at Dublin Airport are Irish holidaymakers.

It is understood that the Government will discuss the penalty system over the next few days.
