Health authorities have confirmed a worrying increase of the Delta (Indian) variant in Ireland, from 97 on Friday to 115 today.
According to the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET), the variant remains ‘a black cloud’ on Irelan’s horizon.
It is understood that the R number (the transmission rate of the virus) in Ireland is somewhere between 0.9 and 1.05. Anything over 1 is dire news indeed.
