Demolition work on Apollo House halted after objections are lodged

According to reports this morning the demolition of the highly publicised Apollo House building has been postponed after An Board Pleanála accepted petitions stopping Dublin City Council from demolishing the building.

The iconic building which was at the centre of a campaign from homelessness groups last month, will not be demolished after the planning board agreed to review a number of petitions including one lodged by a management firm representing the nearby 66 Corn Exchange apartments and developers Balark Investments Lt.

The news of the sudden holdup in proceedings will surely come as blow to the city council and developers after it was agreed that the demolition of Apollo House would be part of an overall €50 million scheme that would see a complete redevelopment of the site and the adjacent Hawkins House.
