It’s been shared all day on social media that the number of people who didn’t bother getting off the couch to go down to their local school to vote outnumbered the total of every single political party in Ireland.
One social media user said:
“It’s a truly shocking statistic that paves the way for those who didn’t vote to keep their trap shut about how their council is run and what way we’re represented in Europe”.
Another said:
“It’s the same old thing. People mouthing off and giving out about everything but don’t even vote when they have the opportunity”.
Australia introduced a system that sees people being fined if they don’t exercise their democratic right by voting.
