Dr Tony Holohan warns that there is a risk of a Christmas lockdown if Covid-19 cases continue to rise




The Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has warned that there is a risk of a Christmas lockdown if Covid-19 cases continue to rise.

Speaking at the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, Dr Holohan said that the NPHET team are very concerned about the continuing rise in cases.

Dr Holohan said that now is the time that the public pull in the same direction and halt the spread of the virus.

The Chief Medical Officer who returned to his role this week urged people to continue social distancing and to follow public health guidelines by washing their hands and to wear face masks.

He added theres nothing inevitable about a Christmas lockdown and unfortunately we could face some of those risks if the public don’t reduce their social contacts.
