€750 million taxpayer money spent on social welfare for Ukrainians living in Ireland

Just days after it was revealed the Irish government had spent €750 million euro providing social welfare alone to Ukrainian refugees since the start of the war in early 2022, Minister Roderick O’Gorman has now said the Irish taxpayer should also support the rebuilding of Ukrainian infrastructure after the war.

The astronomical dole bill for Ukrainians excludes the hundreds of millions spent accommodating, feeding, educating and providing these refugees, who regularly return home for holidays, with medical care and entertainment such as sports days and yoga classes.

O’Gorman has said the Irish taxpayer will have to foot the bill to restore Ukraine’s infrastructure in order to support the return of refugees to the country; however, as the government is busily building modular housing projects across Ireland, it’s clear they are under immense pressure from our new 110,000 visitors.

Many Ukrainians themselves have also widely expressed reluctance to leave so-called “Treasure Island”, as Ireland gets referred to on social media.
