The Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment Eammon Ryan has signed new regulations that will ban the use of smokey coal in areas with more than 10,000 people.
In a move that looks to reduce air pollution, the ban will apply to 13 urban areas with a population over 10,000.
The list which was published this week Cavan Town, Carrigtwohill, Cobh, Midleton and Mallow, Killarney, Longford Town Castlebar, Ballina, Ashbourne, Tullamore, Tramore, and Enniscorthy.
Speaking about the ban which comes into effect on September 1st Minister Ryan said the new measure will tackle air pollution and in turn will save lives.
