Eight children die in domestic shooting in Louisiana

In a devastating incident early Sunday morning,  eight children were shot and killed in Shreveport, Louisiana, in what authorities described as a domestic disturbance spanning two homes in the Cedar Grove area. The victims, ranging in age from 1 to 14 years old, were found at multiple locations following reports of gunfire around 6 a.m.22

Shreveport Police identified the suspect as Shamar Elkins, who fatally shot seven of his own children and one additional child. Two women were critically injured in the attack. A ninth child reportedly escaped unharmed. Elkins fled the scene in a carjacked vehicle and was later shot dead by officers during a police chase.5

Shreveport officials called the scene “horrific,” marking one of the deadliest mass shootings in the U.S. in over two years. Community leaders and the mayor expressed profound grief, with the city council addressing the tragedy. Investigations continue into the domestic circumstances that led to the violence, leaving a neighborhood in mourning and raising questions about family safety.
