The popular fight against water charges took another victim today.

Brian Gould, 63, appeared before Cork District Court today and pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of criminal damage to water meters in the Carrigaline area on several dates in August 2014.

The cost of the damage was €800 in total.

He also pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft of a set of keys from the van of a water-meter installer.

Mr. Gould informed the judge that he wanted to be tried before a judge and jury in the Circuit Court in relation to that charge.

A group of up to 50 protesters gathered outside the court while proceedings were ongoing.

Mr. Gould was remanded on bail to appear before Cork District Court until April 17.
