End of an era: Republic of Ireland international Jonathan Walters confirms retirement from the game

Republic of Ireland and Ipswich Town footballer Jonathan Walters has announced his retirement from the game

Walters, 35, confirmed the news today citing injury as the main factor in his decision.

Walters confirmed the news on Twitter saying: “Isn’t it ironic… my Achilles heel has literally been my Achilles heel and finished me off.” “I am now retired from playing football. It’s been epic. Veni vidi vici.”

The former Irish international earned 54 caps for his country and infamously scored two goals against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Euro 2016 play-off to help Ireland to qualify for the tournament.
