The European Central Bank (ECB) has raised interest rates by 0.5 of a percentage point, the first rate increase in more than 10 years.
This will mean an immediate increase in the borrowing of money, leading to more expensive mortgages, loans, and credit card debt.
The move is designed to curb inflation.
