First fatal outcomes due to ‘Aussie’ flu confirmed in Ireland

The health service has confirmed that the so-called ‘Aussie’ flu has killed ‘less than 10 people’ in Ireland so far.

The ‘Aussie’ flu (viral strain H3N2) is believed to have killed at least 300 back in Australia.

Medical authorities have warned that the ‘flu season’ here in Ireland has just begun, and that more cases are likely.

On average, 400 to 600 people die in Ireland every year due to flu-related causes.
