Five EU officials are thought to have been killed, after the small plane they were travelling in came down over Malta earlier today.
Witnesses say that the aircraft, a twin-propeller Metroliner model, suddenly banked right shortly after take-off and came straight down near the airport perimeter, bursting into flames on impact. There were no survivors.
All flight operations at the airport have been cancelled.
