There were chaotic scenes in San Diego, California, after a truck crashed down on a park full of people on Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened after a driver, identified as 25-year-old US Navy serviceman Richard Anthony Sepolio, lost control of his pickup truck while driving across Interstate 5, heading for Coronado Bridge. The vehicle crashed through a guardrail and plunged 60ft down on to Chicano Park below. A crowd had gathered at the park due to a local celebration taking place at the time.

The truck crashed down on a stall, killing four people instantly and injuring at least nine others. The driver himself survived with major injuries, and it is understood he was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
