Five people have been charged in Limerick District Court and face a criminal trial on 42 counts of perverting the course of justice.

According to The Sun, Retired Garda Superintendent Eamon O’Neill, formerly serving at Roxboro Road garda station in Limerick has been charged with 30 alleged offences.

Garda Sergeant Michelle Leahy of Roxboro Road garda station faces two alleged offences.

Garda Tom McGlinchey of Murroe garda station in county Limerick and former Waterford Senior football team manager faces four alleged offences.

Garda Colm Geary stationed in the Clare Garda Division is charged with three alleged offences.

Garda Sergeant Anne-Marie Hassett of the Kerry Garda Division also faces three alleged offences.

A two year investigation in the Southern region has been led by the Dublin-based Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI).

The charges against the five relate to them allegedly communicating with other gardai and civilians about fixed charge penalty points relating to alleged road traffic offences, reports the Sun.

All five of the accused were remanded on continuing bail to appear before Limerick District Court on June 11 for service of the books of evidence.
