A potentially deadly situation has ended up with no casualties this evening, after a Garda negotiator convinced a man who had covered himself in petrol to give himself up.
The man had entered a church in Crumlin, Dublin, earlier this evening, and threatened to set himself on fire.
Several emergency vehicles rushed to the scene, and a tense standoff began.
It is understood that the man, believed to be in his 50s, has now given himself up after hours of negotiations.
