Gardai advise motorists to be extra careful this morning as roads are treacherous

Gardai have advised motorists to drive with extra care this morning after a very hard frost, ice and snow fell overnight.

Leinster and Munster took the worst of the snowfall that fell yesterday as temperatures plummeted across the country.

Met Eireann advised that black ice will still be on the roads this morning with the AA advising people drive slower than usual after temperatures dropped to -2c with snow having fallen widespread across the country.

From 2pm onward yesterday snow started to fall heavy, while around 8pm a hard frost fell, with snow especially in Munster and Leinster with temperatures dipping below freezing in many places.

This weather is due to pick up again from today with temperatures reaching up to 8c while tomorrow will be mostly sunny with a scattering of rain throughout the rest of the week.
