Gardai are in contact with missing Drogheda boy Kyran Durnin’s mother, who is believed to be in England.

They say that there’s more questions than answers at the moment but the investigation remains open.

In their investigation into the alleged murder of Kyran Durnin, the Gardaí have been granted permission to download and maintain many social media accounts, reports The Mirror.

Extensive excavation and search effort at the eight-year-old boy’s old Dundalk house and the adjacent wasteland proved unsuccessful in finding his corpse.

Officers believe the investigation into Kyran’s fate may take some time, thus the search will now be expanded to include other parts of Louth and the northern border, reports The Mirror.

Detectives believe that the “huge volume” of calls they have received about the child, including reported sightings of him, will help them determine when he was last seen alive.

According to reports, police are now searching the internet for information about the boy’s whereabouts. The inquiry into Kyran’s disappearance and location includes including information from other social media accounts.

A source told the Irish Mirror: “There is a fear that a number of these accounts have been closed recently. However gardai have obtained an order to preserve and download several social media accounts and are examining the timelines and posts in them. It is hoped they may just give them more clues,” reports The Mirror.

It comes as Kyran is the subject of another vigil in Dundalk tonight. People are urged to bring candles or something blue or teal to symbolise Kyran to the vigil, which will take place in Market Square at 7:30 p.m.

The gardai said on Friday that they were responding to a “huge volume” of public calls. Detectives are hoping that these sightings will help them determine when the youngster was last seen alive and whether or not it was more than two years ago as they had assumed, reports The Mirror.
