Gardai say that they’ll be out in force this week again and may, if necessary, arrest people if they are caught out for unnecessary reasons.
Gardai have said that they’ll be out manning checkpoints across the country this week and that people cannot breach the lockdown restrictions.
The warning comes after two people were arrested when they were travelling from Co Limerick to Co Clare to go for a swim over the Easter bank holiday.
It’s understood that they refused to go home or give the gardai any information about their names or address. They were arrested and taken to a garda station until their ID was given. It’s understood that the DPP are not pursuing the incident.
Meanwhile, gardai say that they will enforce the new power if necessary and that people could get a fine of up to €2,500 or up to 6 months in jail.
