Good News: Female Garda badly injured in fatal crash in Co Galway wakes up from induced coma

There was some good news announced recently as one of the two Gardaí injured in a crash that tragically claimed the life of a pensioner has woken up from an induced coma.

The Garda named Sharon Casserly has thankfully woken up recently after her condition dramatically deteriorated earlier this week following Monday’s horrific accident in Co Galway. Ms Casserly and her colleague Peter Murtagh suffered serious injuries in the crash, which tragically claimed the life of 66-year-old Liam McDonnell.

Ms Casserly was placed into an induced coma after she sustained a number of serious injuries during the crash. However thankfully she woke up on Wednesday and is said to be responding well. Meanwhile Mr Murtagh, who suffered a number of injuries to his head and arms, is also believed to be recovering well at University Hospital Galway.

Meanwhile, Mr McDonnell the elderly gentleman who sadly lost his life in the crash has been laid to rest in Galway. Mr McDonnell who was married with two children was laid rest yesterday afternoon at Creagh Cemetery after a funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Creagh.

A garda investigation into the crash is continuing, and officers renewed their appeal for any witnesses to the incident.
