There could be good news for middle income families in the coming weeks ahead after the Government revealed they are considering offering rent subsidy for the middle class workers of Irish society.
Reports suggest the payments would given to those currently earning upto€55,000. It is believed the move comes after a number of TDs submitted the proposal to the minister for housing in an effort to prevent more families joining the social housing list.
However the plan is likely to face strong opposition in the Dáil after a number of opposition parties outlined their concern about the prospect of linking a new, indirect payment to specific income levels.
It is believed the plan will be further discussed with the Minister for Housing Simon Coveney in the coming weeks ahead.
