Government announces plans to build a further 1,000 homes for rough sleepers and single people living in emergency accommodation




The Government have confirmed that they will build 1,000 new homes for rough sleepers and those living in emergency accommodation.

In an announcement made on Wednesday, the Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy confirmed the build is part of the Housing First initiative.

The initiative has been purposely set up to provide housing for rough sleepers and single people living in emergency accommodation.

It is expected that the Government will add a further 675 houses to the the already 214 homes already built under the initiative.

Mr Murphy who said the initiative which is highly successful could also provide a further 75 homes for ex-prisoners upon their release.

It is understood the initiative has the full backing of all local authorities around the country and it is hoped that the builds will be completed in the near future.
