The Government have confirmed that all state ran bodies will no longer be able to purchase single use plastics from today onwards.
In an announcement the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment Richard Bruton, said that all bodies will have until the end of March to implement the rules that aims to cut Ireland’s overall un-recyclable waste output.
The decision which comes as part of the EU’s overall plan to ban single use plastics from 2021, will be the first of many initiatives that will look to reduce the country’s carbon foot print.
It is expected that all bodies including schools and Government buildings will implement the plan over the coming weeks.
