Govt announce dates social welfare recipients will receive their bonus payment

The government has agreed payment dates for energy loans and additional welfare benefits, which were included in the cost of living package in last week’s budget, reports RTE.

The Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys, and the Minister for Transport, Environment and Climate, Eamonn Ryan, presented their proposals on the payment schedule to the Cabinet.

Each household will automatically receive a €150 credit on their electricity bill on 1 December and again on 1 January and 1 March the following year.

Social Security lump sum payments will begin the week beginning Monday, November 20

This will include a working family allowance of €400, a disability support allowance of €400 and fuel allowance of €300.

It will help 409,000 families with home heating in winter.

For the week of November 27, a €400 carer support grant, €200 support for living allowance recipients and €100 eligible child benefit will be paid, reports RTE.

A 100% Christmas bonus will be available in the week of December 4, supporting 1.33 million pensioners, carers, disabled people and other social groups.

A double child benefit payment of €280 per child will also be paid this week.

Then, in the week starting January 29 next year, there will be double benefits for pensioners and people receiving weekly Social Security benefits.

The total cost of the nine social benefits is over €1.2 billion, reports RTE.
